When it comes to packaging spherical products, designers often face limitations in terms of product visibility and budget constraints. However, Andreas Kioroglou, a renowned designer, has successfully overcome these challenges with his innovative packaging solution, V Sphere.
The main objective of the V Sphere packaging design was to create a cost-effective solution that maximizes product visibility. Kioroglou's research revealed that existing packaging options for spherical products were unable to showcase the sphere from all angles. Additionally, the budget did not allow for the use of plastic packaging due to high mold costs.
To address these issues, Kioroglou devised a unique packaging design that combines maximum visibility with secure product placement. The V Sphere packaging features a premium, statue-style design consisting of a two-piece paperboard base, a PET transparent box, and a vacuum part that locks the sphere in place.
One of the key challenges in designing the V Sphere packaging was to ensure that the sphere remains visible while preventing any movement during transportation. This was crucial to maintain the consistency of the product's image, especially considering that the spherical puzzle comes in different colors. By utilizing the vacuum part, Kioroglou successfully achieved both objectives.
The V Sphere packaging not only provides a 360-degree view of the product but also exudes a premium feel. The consumer can appreciate the intricate details of the sphere from all angles, enhancing the overall product experience.
With dimensions of 10cm in length, 10cm in width, and 20cm in height, the V Sphere packaging is designed to perfectly accommodate the spherical puzzle. The use of CMYK plus two Pantone Metallic colors, along with SBS 450gsm material, adds to the overall aesthetic appeal of the packaging.
The V Sphere packaging project commenced in October 2016 in Athens and was completed in December 2016. Throughout the design process, Kioroglou collaborated with a structural designer and also took charge of the art direction and graphic design aspects.
Recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, the V Sphere packaging design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate exceptional technical and creative skills while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
With its innovative approach to packaging design, V Sphere sets a new standard for showcasing and securing spherical products. Kioroglou's groundbreaking solution not only meets the requirements of cost-effectiveness and maximum visibility but also enhances the overall consumer experience.
